Rev. Dr. Sylvia Lee Mann's sermon, "Breaking Boundaries". For Pride Sunday - Clobber verses, Jonathan and David, and Jesus. Jesus was a relentless boundary breaker.
Jesus shatters social, class locations, performing miraculous, healing, faith-engendering work among the high and the low. In this Sunday’s gospel he defies a geographical boundary by working over on the other side of the sea. He also defies economic and class boundaries by working among both the rich and the poor, by slowing down the rich and taking time for the poor. He brings these people together in the community of the grateful. They have nothing in common except for being met by Jesus. They are brought together by the compassionate, healing work of Jesus.
And ultimately, Jesus breaks boundaries between sickness and health, rich and poor, welcome and unwelcome, even death and life.
